John (Jack) Walter Cantwell Jr. of Myerstown, PA left us peacefully on Tuesday the 13 th of January 2026 at the Lebanon VA Hospital Hospice where he received amazing care. He lived 91 years, and his life was full of love, learning, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Wentzel Cantwell, sister Kathleen Muriel Monroe of Walden, NY, and his grandson Kyle Yuki Cantwell, of Alexandria, VA. Born in Brooklyn, NY on May 6 th 1934, Jack was an avid Dodgers fan from the age of 6 and became a passionate Red Sox fan after residing outside of Boston for many years. His other passions included his global marketing career (of which he cheekily claimed to be the "oldest working marketing professional in America"), love of acting and singing, writing, photography, and teaching college students. His Catholic faith and belief in the importance of lifelong learning were also essential in his life. Jack's engagement in area community events and charities sustained his enthusiasm for connection and community. Mr. Cantwell was also proud of his service in the U.S. Army Security Agency as a Linguistics Specialist (1954-57) in South Korea and Japan, which was a catalyst for his love of travel. Jack's proudest accomplishment was his family. He is survived by his children, Kevin Cantwell, Lisa Cantwell Doherty (spouse Ted Doherty), and Monica Cantwell (spouse Tynes Cowan). He adored his grandchildren: Meagan Hitomi Cantwell (spouse Pratheek Rebala) of Washington, D.C., Jack Doherty, Aidan Doherty, and Theo Doherty (all of Boston, MA), and Molly and Elana Cowan (of Birmingham, AL). Memorial mass will be held on Saturday, March 14th, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Mary Gate of Heaven Church, 188 W Mckinley Ave., Myerstown. In lieu of flowers, please donate to The St. James Players - a local community theater that "provides quality, inclusive, free theatre opportunities" for "people of all ages, abilities, and talents". Jack was a staunch supporter and loved acting in their productions. The St. James Players Lebanon Valley Mall, Lebanon, PA 17042 Thestjamesplayers.org (717) 450-0006 Thestjamesplayers@gmail.com
