John H. Bowman, 77, passed away on July 7, 2024, at Lebanon Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lebanon, PA. John Bowman was born on September 17, 1946 in Lebanon, PA, to J. Herbert Bowman and Beatrice K. (Markley) Bowman. After John graduated from high school, John gave back to the local educational community by working as a school van driver for many years. John married Bonita L. (Harvey) Bowman on May 22, 1971. Together they raised many children of the furry variety, and John is thus preceded in death by his beloved Dachshunds: O'Grady, Oscar, and Oscarya. John was best known as an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping, fishing, shooting, and collecting guns and knives. His other hobbies included going out to eat with friends, or simply relaxing while watching television. John also served in the Army from 1966 to 1969, and was part of the 101st Airborne Division. He spent time serving our nation in Germany and Vietnam, and his awards included the Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medals. John is survived by his wife, Bonita Bowman, of Lebanon; his sister-in-law, Susan Dubuque, and her husband, Robert Dahlburg; a nephew, Nicholas Dubuque, and his wife, Tabitha; and close friend Timothy Heisey, to whom John and Bonita were like adopted parents. John is preceded in death by his parents. The service for Mr. John Bowman will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, in Annville, PA.
