Joan Stauffer Sowers, 92, of Cornwall Manor, Pennsylvania, went home to be with the Lord on October 18, 2026. She lived a life filled with grace and purpose, marked by a spirit of adventure and service. She was married to her beloved husband, Geoffrey Lewis Sowers, for more than 62 years until his passing in 2024. She is survived by her two children, David and Angela, eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Dorothy Frey Stauffer, and her sisters, Barbara and Virginia.
Joan was fluent in French and spent the final year of her academic studies at the Sorbonne in Paris. Throughout her life, she demonstrated true servant leadership, humility, and kindness across numerous volunteer activities. She opened her home readily to family, friends, and cross-cultural exchange students, offering a warm welcome to all.
Joan and Geoff enjoyed travels near and far—including trips to Europe, Hawaii, Africa, Palestine and Israel, and the Caribbean—as well as motorhome camping adventures both on their own and with their grandchildren. Joan was also a talented needleworker, thoughtfully crafting most of her projects as precious gifts for family and friends.
Joan will be remembered as a gracious and loving mother, grandmother, and friend—a gentle and beautiful soul. A celebration of her life will be held in the sanctuary of the Church of the Good Shepherd, 1500 Quentin Road, Lebanon, on Friday, November 13, at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joan's honor to the Church of the Good Shepherd or Cornwall Manor.
