Clifford W. Snavely of Lebanon departed his earthly life on Thursday, October 29 at the Lebanon VA Hospice. Born on October 7, 1927, he recently celebrated his 99th birthday. The son of the late Irvin and Dora Snavely, he was preceded in death by his sisters Irene Snavely, Betty Grimes and Mary Ann McQuinn, as well as his wife, Elizabeth, and daughter, Diane. Cliff is survived by his wife, Kathy, daughter Brenda (Sam), son Bob (Barb), son Bill (Sharon), 8 grandchildren (Jonathan, Adam, Matt, Jayme, Stacy, Heather, Brandon and Stephen), 13 great-grandchildren (Jacob, Abby, Ethan, Dakota, Jordan, Damien, McKenna, Emerson, Mason, Austin, Trystan, Morgan and Zooey) and 2 great-great-grandchildren (Adalyn, Grayson), with another joyously anticipated in January – and many beloved relatives and friends.
After graduating from Lebanon High School in 1945, he served in the Army in Japan under General MacArthur from 1945-1947. He worked as a bricklayer for J.B. Minnich & Sons, founded Snavely Construction and finally Creative Designs with partner, Greg Boger. While he helped build many structures around Central Pennsylvania and beyond, Cliff was most proud of the Lebanon Seventh Day Adventist Church (which he built with his father) and the Kenhorst Seventh Day Adventist Church in Reading.
A man of faith and family, he relished family get-togethers (especially when spaghetti, cake and ice cream were involved), worshipping with his church family, and living in Mt. Gretna for 30 years in a home he proudly built. He also participated in mission trips with friends from the Cornwall United Methodist Church in Philippi, WV.
The family wishes to extend their deep gratefulness for the loving care provided to Cliff by Berelis George, Patty Blouch, Leslie Shirey and Chris Johnson with the staff at ElderCare, and all those at the Lebanon VA Hospital who cared for him.
His life will be celebrated with worship on Tuesday, November 10 at the Lebanon Seventh Day Adventist Church, 213 E. Walnut St., Lebanon with visitation at 1pm and service at 2pm. Graveside services will follow at Grand View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor will be gratefully accepted by the Lebanon Seventh Day Adventist Church.
