Anthony “Tony” John Loewy, a proud veteran of the United States Navy and United States Coast Guard, passed away the morning of December 11th, 2023. Tony was driving to pick up his beloved miniature pinscher, Brian, when his car was struck head on by a car that drove into Tony’s driving lane. The son of John and Elaine Loewy, Tony was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 1st, 1958. He grew up in Farmingville, NY and attended Sachem High School in Ronkonkoma, NY. At the age of 19, Tony enlisted in the United States Navy from 1977-1981. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Petty Officer Second Class. During his time on active duty in the Navy, he earned his “Dolphins” pin as part of his “Silent Service” on submarines. He served during the Cold War and had to be ready to go at a moment’s notice while on deployment. As part of his commitment, he served in the Naval Reserves for 3 years after transferring from active duty in the Navy. Following his time in the reserves, Tony joined the United States Coast Guard in 1984 and continued to serve his country until he retired from service in 1998. During his time in the Coast Guard, he achieved the rank of Petty Officer First Class. He eventually became an Electronics Technician First Class and was responsible for servicing the sonar and radar systems on the ship. After his military service, Tony attended Pittsburgh Technical Institute, Westminster College, and Pennsylvania State University. He earned two associate degrees; one in Electrical Engineering and the other in Biomedical Engineering. Tony used his military background in electronics and his degrees to continue to serve others. He did this while working for Varian Medical Systems as their service representative. Tony traveled to medical facilities throughout the Eastern half of Pennsylvania, as well as parts of Maryland and New Jersey, servicing and repairing different machines related to the treatment of patients. His dedication to his work showed how much he cared about the well-being of others. He also enjoyed a great rapport with his coworkers. Tony is preceded in death by his mother Elaine Loewy and his sister Christine Loewy. Tony is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Pamela Loewy; his children Jennifer Loewy, Anthony Harnisch, June Hockenberry; Kyle Loewy; his grandchildren Austin, Alexis, Gavin, Samantha Jo, Hunter, Zoe; Danica; and his great-grandson Brantley. He is also survived by his father John A. Loewy, sister Donna Loewy, brother John Loewy, and sister Linda Robinson. His loved ones will always remember his quick-witted, off the cuff humor, in addition to his love and dedication to his family and friends.
